Maxine Kruschke founded Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women in 1982 after leaving a 32-year marriage marred by domestic violence. Ms. Kruschke and a group of volunteers offered direct support to 5 victims of domestic violence out of her kitchen that first year. Since that time SVABW has grown their services, programs, advocacy and support and have assisted over 18,000 women and their children on their journey for a violence free, healthy family life.
The mission continues with Maxine’s daughter, Mary Ann Bigaouette. Mary Ann carries on her mother’s legacy, trust, faith and passion for working with victims of domestic violence, building awareness and educating the community with the audacious goal of ending domestic violence in Scott and Carver counties. Working with a committed Board of Directors and a talented staff, the SVABW team continue to build partnerships with law enforcement, the legal community, social services, schools, faith communities and private enterprises to directly support victims of domestic violence.
