Southern Valley Alliance Can Help

Domestic violence situations almost always involve navigating the civil and/or criminal justice systems at some point. SVA partners with law enforcement, attorneys, and other agencies to advocate for and empower survivors through what can be an overwhelming and confusing process, especially in light of the stress and trauma of domestic violence. Call SVA at 952-873-4214 if you have questions about court advocacy.

SVA Court Advocacy Program

SVA’s Court Advocacy Program assists survivors of domestic violence with obtaining immediate and long-term legal protections, as well as companionship during the petition and court hearing processes. SVA Court Advocates are not lawyers, so they cannot give legal advice or speak on a survivor’s behalf in court, however they provide survivors with a network of support and help survivors navigate the civil and criminal court processes surrounding domestic violence.

SVA’s Court Advocacy Program provides:

» Assistance in filing for protection orders

» Accompaniment to civil court hearings and assistance throughout the court process

» Explanations regarding the court process and judgments

» Referrals to attorneys, victim assistance providers, and crisis intervention programs

» Assistance in safety planning

» Emergency 911 cell phones
